Interview with my grandma

Interview

I think everyone of you knows that: Grandma’s food tastes best. And this also applies to me and that’s why I decided to make an interview with my grandma. My grandma inspires me because she can cook something delicious with various ingredients, even if the ingredients don’t match so much. And that’s exactly what makes a good cook.

Me: Hello grandma I’m glad that you took the time for our interview

Granny: Hello Isabella, yes of course I am honored that you see me as a little „idol“.

Me: As I told you in advance, this interview is about food and cooking. So that’s why my first question is, what do you enjoy most about cooking?

Granny; The best thing about cooking is that you can always try new things. You can always combine different ingredients without knowing whether this will really taste good or not. That’s why i love to cook without a cookbook. And I don’t remember if I have ever using one.

Me: But isn´t it difficult to cook something without a cookbook if you want to cook something specific?

Granny: No in my opinion not. Because over time you get a feel for it. Cooking is not something you learn from one day to the next, you learn it over time. So I always say : the more you cook, the better it gets and the better it tastes.

Me: Did you help your mother cook a lot? And did you learned a lot of her?

Granny: Yes of course. We had a farm at home so we had to help each other and work together and my part was to help my mother to cook lunch. She was a really fantastic cooker, because she  knew the typical farmer recipes which are distinctive. In  my opinion it is really important to pass these recipes  from generation to generation so that they are not forgotten.

Me: Do you think that eating habits have changed over the years?

Granny: Yes, in any case.  You only have to compare how many vegetarians and vegans are there today. It used to be a feast when we got meat to eat and today such a lot of people refuse to eat meat although it is important for our body. I personally don’t think this is particularly good because the body needs all these nutrients and vitamins for a healthy life.

Me: But what do you think are the reasons why there are so many vegetarians and vegans?

Granny: If you ask me, it’s just a trend. I am sure that for most people it doesn’t matter whether animals suffer from it or not. For them it’s much more about being thin, dietary reasons, eating “healthy”or to  go with the crowd.

Me: Could you also imagine being a vegetarian and vegan?

Granny: No, definitely not. Because in my own opinion I eat that what my body needs, and I believe everyone is different and no diet fits all. Therefore everyone should find their own way which is best for themselves.

Me: I totally agree with you. So now I have one further question. And I am convinced that it ist he  most difficult of all. So what is your favorite dish?

Granny: My favorite dish is by far“Käsnudeln“. So a typical Carinthian dish but I love the combination of pasta dough and curd cheese.  And I love it if the casnoodles are fried.

Me: Oh Yes I know what you mean. So thank you for taking the time and it was a really  interesting interview with you.

Granny: I was happy to do for you and it was really funny.

  1. Great interview and really cool that you did that with your grandma. I agree with her that it is important to pass on recipes to the next generation 👍 and by the way I really got hungry by looking at your photos 🍲

  2. I think your grandma is right about veganism. In addition to that, far too much meat is eaten on average these days. It should be handled as before. Do not eat meat every day and you can look forward to it, because it is something special and you can also pay attention about the quality.
